In defence of tie dye

Avoid bright rainbow colours and tie-dyed maxi-dresses à la Kate Garraway; it's just too much. Definitely don't pair a print with anything crocheted, bell-bottomed or John Lennon-style sunglasses; the hippie look died along with free love in the Sixties. Lauren Conrad, the reality television star, stepped out last week with (subtly) tie-dyed hair and managed to get away with it. Let's not go that far, but it is tie dye's moment - if you're brave enough.
