Western Digital debuts Mac-friendly My Book Studio
Irvine-based Western Digital (WD), a longtime producer of computer digital-storage devices, has unveiled its new external hard drive, My Book Studio, which is made for Apple Time Machine and Mac computers. Now available in storage capacities reaching 3 terabytes (TB), which equals 3,000 gigabytes, My Book Studio features an aluminum casing to complement the look of a Mac computer, automatic backup elements, FireWire 800/400 speed, password protection and hardware encryption. It is also available in 1 TB and 2 TB capacities.
The eco-friendly WD Caviar Green internal drive series stays cool to the touch even while the computer is running. The internal fan not only limits drive noise – it lengthens the life of the hardware as well, say Western Digital reps.
"WD has updated the design of its My Book Studio drive while providing natural cooling features delivered by the new aluminum enclosure," said Jim Welsh, executive vice president and general manager of WD's branded products and consumer electronics groups.
Although My Book Studio is specifically designed for Mac users, with further reformatting it can also be used with Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7. The hard drive is now available at online or at select retailers.
