Four Canton families to get home repairs through 'Extreme Dome Makeover' event

CANTON, Mo. -- Four Canton families have been selected to receive free exterior home renovations through the second annual "Extreme Dome Makeover" project sponsored by Culver-Stockton College.

The renovations are scheduled to take place Saturday, Aug. 20, as C-SC students begin returning to campus for the start of the new school year.

Last year, nearly 400 local volunteers spent a day making repairs to four Canton homes owned by deserving residents who do good deeds for others despite their own personal hardships. The volunteers included C-SC students, faculty, staff members and community residents.

In February, members of the Canton community were invited to nominate four more deserving individuals to be given home renovations this year. The college recently announced the 2011 recipients will be:

º Bobby and Connie Brundza.

º Kim and Sharon Lambert.

º Dan and Carla Steinbeck.

º Sharon Slater.

According to a press release from the college, the Brundzas were nominated "for their dedication and service to the Canton community and the United Methodist Church, of which they are members."

Bobby Brundza in a volunteer on the Canton Fire Department and helps maintain the church building. In addition, the Brundzas volunteer their time and contribute to church and community events, including last year's Extreme Dome Makeover event. The Brundza home on Fourth Street is to be repainted.

The Lamberts were picked because they "are known for their willingness to give both time and energy to their community and church," the press release said. "Both teach Sunday school and actively minister within the community. In addition, Sharon Lambert maintains the church's website in her free time while Kim Lambert frequently lends a helping hand to his neighbors and friends."

The couple's property will receive free landscaping.

The Steinbecks were selected to have their house painted "for their ability to overcome personal and financial adversity while maintaining a commitment to their community," the release said.

Carla Steinbeck previously was a Girl Scout leader and member of the Canton Public Library Board. Dan Steinbeck serves on the Lewis County Ambulance Board and the Canton Tourism Board. He has filled numerous other leadership roles in the community.

I love to watch those home improvement shows to get ideas on things I can do to make my house more attractive, more energy efficient so it saves me money, and more organized so it saves me time.

Our first home was a 1924 brick bungalow on a beautiful tree lined street.  We transformed it from a pit to our little palace in a few years, spending weekend after weekend on home improvement projects.  When our family got bigger and we outgrew our pretty little home, we decided to look for a home that was newer.  Our kids were young and we wanted to spend our time watching them grow up, instead of spending our time doing the things an older home required, like as swapping out storm windows and screens 2 weekends a year, and keeping up with all the painting.

The reasons I decided to build my network marketing business online was very similar to the reasons my husband and I decided to purchase a newer home:

I agree that newer homes don’t have the same personality and charm that older homes do, but as a busy mom of 3, there is something to be said for simplicity.  I encourage you to continue to build in your warm market when you find people who are looking for a way to earn money from home.  Ignoring those people is just plain selfish!  But using a WordPress blog as your “home” online can be a great way to simplify your business building, and you can still have all the personality and charm of the traditional network marketing approach, by following up with your leads by phone, and building relationship with them.

Stop and think about this for a minute….your blog is probably a more important piece of real estate than your home is, because an effective marketing hub can earn you income that can pay for the physical home you live in, and the improvements you want to make on it.
