Boy Scout Troop 578's Newest Eagle Scouts
ANAHEIM - Scout Troop 578, sponsored by the Orange County Buddhist Church (OCBC) in Anaheim, is proud to announce that 10 of its members have recently received the rank of Eagle Scout.
May 13, nine of these scouts were recognized at a Court of Honor Eagle. The ceremony was celebrated with family, friends and fellow scouts. The boys were presented with Eagle scarves, badges and pins.
Special guests were present Rev. Marvin Harada, Rev. Alan Sakamoto, president OCBC Rumi Nakatani and Janet Kotake, representing the Association of Buddhist Women OCBC.The ceremony included an inspirational speech by Rod Nakamoto, former Chief Scout Troop 578 OCBC and co-founder of the Ugroup at Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown.
To be considered for the highest price a Boy Scout can earn, a candidate must be active in his troop, take a leadership position, to win at least 21 merit badges (12 badges Eagle required), complete a project service leadership benefiting her local community, and receive letters.
For boys, leadership skills, organizational skills, sense of community and commitment are the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship. The project Eagle Award is the culmination of all the work the boys put forward to advance through the ranks. The Eagle Project is something that meets a need in the community and leads to positive change.
• Kevin Sollberger, son of Mark and Lori Nomura Sollberger, is a senior at Irvine High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, the Student Forum and crew and a university link three-year volleyball player and captain in his senior year.
He is a member of the Jr.YBA, where he served as vice president, corresponding secretary and religious president. He also plays on the basketball team Plowboys OCBC.
In his 12 years of scouting, Sollberger has enjoyed the variety of experiences and friendships he has been exposed. He spent some of his most memorable moments of scout outings, which include climbing to the summit of Mt. Fuji.
His Eagle project was to stand a new goldfish for religious holidays biannual held in OCBC. As a member of the church since early childhood, he has always been a part of such festivals as both a volunteer and a participant.Seeing the state destroyed the cab of goldfish old, he decided it was time for a new one. He organized and coordinated a team of experienced scouts in building a new stand from scratch, doing everything from cutting wood, paint, to put it all together. Sollberger felt filled with the completion of his project as he loved the smiles of children who have played the game
