Rockford farm market favorite in the nation?
ROCKFORD, Mich. (WZZM) - Saturday's rainy weather did not dampen the turnout at Rockford's Farm Market, nor did it stop votes from coming in.
There is a push at the market, to earn the rank of "America's Favorite." American Farmland Trust holds the contest every year for the top participating farmer's markets around the country.
The competition is broken up into four categories, including boutique, small, medium, and large. Rockford currently leads in the small market category.
Rockford's Farm Market is organized by volunteers, with assistance from the Rockford area Lion's Club. It's a pride and joy for many, who hope to hold onto the lead through the contest's final three weeks.
"People ask us all the time, what's in it for us? Is there prize money? It's really just about bragging rights," said volunteer Cliff Hill, who, with his wife Nancy, are campaigning for market votes.
Voting is available online through the website, farmland.org/vote . America's favorite farmer's market will be named after the contest concludes on August 31.
