Motorcycle festival combines fundraising with fun
BIRKENFELD - The 12th annual Run 21 is coming to Birkenfeld July 22 through 24. Hosted by the southeast Portland chapter of ABATE of Oregon Inc. (www.abatese.net), Run 21 is an adults-only motorcycle run and everyone, motorcyclist or not, is welcome to attend.
The music headliners this year include The Fryed Brothers band and Molly Hatchet. Other live music includes tribute bands Petty Fever (Tom Petty) and Randy Lindor Band (Creedence Clearwater Revival) as well as two local biker favorites, The Saturday Night Orphans and Francine West and the High Speed Wobblers.
There will be traditional biker entertainment, food, service and accessories vendors on site. Tickets are $60 at the gates, which open at 9 a.m. Friday, July 22.
Run 21 started out in Hood River in 2000 with approximately 450 people attending. The run was then moved to the scenic Birkenfeld community, where attendance has grown to more than 2000 in recent years.
The proceeds from the run are used to promote motorcycle legislation, safety and education. Monies are also donated to a fund to help feed the homeless at the Harbor Lights Mission in Portland and the ABATE/Shriners Toy Run (www.abatetoyrun.com) where the group raisees money for specialized equipment for the children at the Shriners Hospital, also located in Portland.
