Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit students are using the summer break from classes to learn, serve and develop leadership skills in local churches and other organizations in a range of locations. Emily Gehman, a senior counseling major, is working as an intern at First Baptist Church of Rochester in Michigan this summer, gaining experience and first- hand knowledge of different career areas. Her responsibilities and duties include serving with the church’s youth ministry, being a youth sponsor, working with women’s ministries, leading as VBS Director and teaching Sunday school classes.Recently, Emily took a group of teens to Chicago to work with Inner City Impact, an urban ministry for city families."I knew being an intern would give me a chance to gain valuable hands-on experience in ministry, whatever type it was," Emily said. "It’s great to be able to rub shoulders with ministry veterans. It is a summer doing something I love doing. "Emily knows her internship will be valuable asset to whatever area of global Christian leadership she is led to serve in.Around the worldBBC students like Emily are working in churches, camps, businesses, and missions in the U.S. and around the world. Some have participated in short-term mission opportunities in South Africa, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Romania, while others are spending their summer working at camps and churches.BBC’s nine-member traveling ministry team, RiSE, is performing and ministering in churches, camps, and Christian schools throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts and West Virginia over the summer. At home other students learning to lead have remained on campus or have returned to work during the many of camps and conferences offered throughout the summer, including Teen Leadership Conference. Members of BBC’s Summer Crew are spending their summer months serving the campus on many levels. These students perform maintenance duties, work in the Underground Cafe, serve in different capacities during summer events, and help get the campus ready for the fall semester.Students returning to serve during camps include members of several Defender teams. Men’s and women’s basketball and soccer team members serve as instructors and counselors during the Big Blue and Defenders sports camps. Others have returned to lead during Boot Camp and TLC.
