NRA fundraiser helps youth gun education

Gun owners and supporters, and those who believe in educating youth on gun-safety, have a local event where they can support those beliefs with the Friends of the NRA Annual Banquet 6 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Tennsco Community Building.

It’s also an event where two participants will receive handgun giveaways – one of which is a Glock 9 mm.

According to Linda Chambers, one of the event organizers, the Friends of NRA program helps preserve the Second Amendment, and promotes shooting sports, firearms education and other traditional, non-political National Rifle Association activities.

Chambers said proceeds raised go toward firearms safety training, youth education, hunter safety training programs, range development conservation and Second Amendment Education.

The banquet will include two handgun giveaways as door prizes as well as an auction for limited edition NRA items. The banquet also includes a dinner, which will begin before the auction.

Tickets are $30 each, or two for $50.

All proceeds go to local youth hunting and sporting groups, and hunter safety and education courses, according to a press release.

Chambers said the money goes into a statewide NRA Foundation pool, which is then given out for grants and programs annually.

The Dickson County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a grant to purchase an Eddie Eagle costume to teach school children gun safety. Eddie Eagle’s key points for children who see a gun: Stop! Don't touch. Leave the area. Tell an adult.

The grant monies also go toward buying supplies for the Dickson County 4H Youth Shooting Club. This year, the club is applying for a grant for “much-needed” equipment, Chambers said.

The Friends of NRA program is conducted by local volunteers to raise funds for the NRA Foundation through banquets, auctions, shoots, golf tournaments, etc., and to provide a local gathering for NRA members, Chambers said. Since its inception in 1992, nationally, Friends of NRA has held over 13,500 events, reached over two million attendees and raised over $170 million for The NRA Foundation. The NRA Foundation is a tax-exempt organization that raises tax-deductible contributions in support of firearm-related public interest activities of the National Rifle Association of America.

Barrett Firearms | Ways For Personal Development

Barrett Firearms Manufacturing has a tried and proven philosophy that embraces the past while forever pursing the best up-to-date business practices. The company credo is We think outside the box and always explore ways on how we can continue to improve. Barrett rifles and related products made for civilian sport shooters, law enforcement agencies, the United States military and over 50 foreign countries that are American allies prove that point. Success is spelled out in the letters and emails that we receive. The following is an

After looking at CoD, and then looking at Bad Company 2, I thought they had did a decent job doing one of these rifles justice. However I was wrong and realize like AmericanSniper83 that Barrett rifles should not be in video games because they cannot be recreated to fit what they can do in real life. I just wish buying one of them wouldn’t break the bank because I would love one

@13thmistral I read an article from American Rifleman magazine (sometime earlier in 2011) in which they stated that the 6.8 SPC didn’t overwhelm them with its accuracy for the wonder round that it was talked up to be. My guess as to why Barrett isn’t currently making one in 6.5 Grendel is that Bill Alexander (of Alexander Arms) is charging exorbitant royalties for making 6.5 ammunition and making the competition buy 6.5 Grendel bolts from him.

@AmericanSniper83 That’s true… I never thought of that. You could only put a suppressor on a Barrett M107, 82A1, MRAD or 98B because they don’t have arrow head designs. And yeah it’s called a Kriss and it won best close range combat weapon of the year TWICE. And it sucks in COD. Practically all the male young generation of today have a decent understanding (although somewhat inaccurate) of weapons due to the video game industry… but killing virtual people all day isn’t very productive LOL.
