GeekDad Giveaway: Grab Yourself a Copy of Paul (GeekDad Weekly Rewind)

, tells the tale of a stranded alien and his mission to get back home.

For the cinema release I wrote ‘ 10 Things You Should Know About Paul ‘, but the TL;DR version is basically Pegg and Frost are two geeks visiting Comic-Con before embarking on a tour of UFO hotspots, where they happen upon Paul trying escape his captors and help him to reach his ride home, dealing along the way with various Men in Black, hillbillies, Christian Zealots and cramming a ton sci-fi movie references into the 1 hour 45 minutes running time.

The blu ray features an ‘Unrated’ version of the movie, which basically seems to eschew the idea of ‘deleted or extended scenes’ in favour of putting them back in to the flow of the movie. So we are treated to about five and half minutes of extra footage compared to the theatrical release (which is also included on the disc). The majority of these extra minutes are extended scenes between the main characters, so we get a few extra lines of Ruth’s experiments with cussing – which was one of my favourite bits of the film – and some banter between Bill Hader and Joe Lo Truglio’s agent characters. Ruth and Paul’s heated debate about the nature of evolution is much longer and one of the better ones, but I don’t really know if they add anything, or for that matter if taking them out of the theatrical release made it a better film.It is only because I had the "digital copy" of the original version running on my iPad I could place where there was!

Among the extras in standard commentaries, blooper reel, featurettes and behind the sceen, one feature stands out for me, "The Evolution of Paul to the CGI animators, sculptors, designers and traditional. It shows all of the various tricks used to make him as believable as possible – sometimes he was a kid in a green screen suit, sometimes a dummy would be used so the actors had something to act with and deform their clothing properly, and then the CGI layers added over the top. Fascinating stuff, and just as full of swearing as the main movie, so watch out with the younger kids

However, the best bit of it is a ‘test scene’ produced long before production on the film actually started for real, made to sell the idea to the studio. It’s set inside the RV and features a polished, but not finished version of Paul, interacting with Pegg and Frost who look like they’re dressed as groupies from a glam rock band, complete with perms and huge ‘tasches!

Mexico RV Resorts – How Safe Is It To Roam In Mexico?

There’s plenty about Mexico that maintains American and Canadian tourists enamoredin love. The sun. The beaches. The colonial metropolitans. The cultural heritage. The striking sceneries. Without a doubt, Mexico provides a special kind of paradise. And to other tourists, there’s no alternative way to enjoy Mexico than RVing.

RVing is absolutely an pleasurable way to trip across Mexico. RVing carries travelers closer to nature. And it reveals them to the Mexicans’ everyday lifestyle and culture in a more extensive and special level. But even if RVing is an acceptable thing in Mexico, there are a bit sad news and tales about RV travelers being victims of misdeeds. So the inevitable inquiry says, “How safe is it to tour in an RV in Mexico?”

It will be extremely unrealistic to tell that crimes don’t happen in Mexico. In reality, RV-jacking, pickpocketing, assault, and other the same crimes happen in the country just like they do in some other areas of the planet. But to say that Mexico is an unsafe travel destination is unmerited and a little of an exaggeration. For the record, Mexico is very protected for tourists and RV visitors most specially.

So if you are preparing to travel to Mexico any time soon, relax. The spots with elevated crime rate generally are not the spots visited a lot or even traveled by American and Canadian tourists. Thus, safety of foreign tourists can be assured. But this is not to underestimate the danger on traveler safety. Trivial crimes happen. But if you execute extra precautionary measures, as you should all the times do when traveling to any unfamiliar destination, your trip in Mexico will be a delightful and exciting experience.

Primarilly, make sure you do your preparation. Read about the places you are touring to and evaluate their general safety. Learn the secure RV parks, so in case you don’t go to your destination before the dusk, you have a location to keep safe in for the night. But if you not successful to land in an RV park, make sure to remain near a residential area, eatery, or hotel. Stay away parking in isolation.

Remember, never tour at night. The cause of some roads in Mexico is unsecure for night touring. Plus the fact that pigs, cattle, and horses break free at night and can be a total road disturbance.

If you should leave your RV to go fishing or do extra outdoor activities, see to it that the RV is carefully locked. Draw the curtains to keep prying eyes from your things. Your most expensive things should be locked in a safety box. And make sure to never set off very far-off from your RV.
