Vocals of 1940s Sister Acts Brought to Life
The jazz trio String of Pearls returns to the Bickford Theatre on Monday, July 18 at 8 p.m.
The singers, Sue Halloran, Holli Ross, and Jeanne O'Connor, are known for their stunning reneditions of songs by the Boswell, Andrews and McGuire Sisters. The group, who has performed internationally, delivers many entertaining solo pieces as well.
Presenting a performance packed with vintage vocal arrangements and more modern fare that ranges from bebop and big band to Brazilian and American pop, String of Pearls offers something every listener can enjoy.
Michael Bourne, of Newark-based jazz radio station WBGO-FM said of the group, "String of Pearls shows an authentic and affectionate spirit with an extraordinary kaleidoscope of group singing styles."
The 300-seat Bickford Theatre, located inside the Morris Museum, known for its exceptional acoustics, offers an intimate setting to enjoy the trio. As part of the Monday evening jazz series, the show will follow an uninterrupted 90-minute, extended set format.

This brings back such sweet memories. My mother taught this to me and my three younger sisters. We would sing and harmonize on this. The only thing...she wouldn't let us sing "swear" by stars above. She didn't think that was right to swear. So she changed the words to "say" by stars above. She has Alzheimers now and doesn't know any of us girls anymore, but it is nice to have moments like this where a song can bring back such wonderful childhood moments! Thank you.
